The Coastal Conference is one of the two active conferences in the American Contract League (ACL). Established during the league’s 2025 expansion to 14 teams, the conference primarily consists of former members of the Pacific and Atlantic Divisions, alongside the addition of expansion franchises in Texas and Oklahoma. The conference currently contains seven teams. While many member clubs trace their histories back to the ACL’s divisional era, the 2025 realignment into conferences was widely viewed as a fresh structural reset for the league.
The conference has historically been associated with strong, well-built rosters, particularly through the Maryland Mariners and Arizona Albatross. Maryland captured the ACL championship in 2022 during the divisional era, but has since settled into a more inconsistent competitive cycle. In contrast, Arizona established itself as one of the league’s early dynasties, winning championships in 2023 and 2025 and remaining a consistent postseason presence.
The Coastal Conference is also notable for being home to ACL Commissioner Reese Thompson. His franchise has remained a stable fixture throughout both the divisional and conference eras, often credited with maintaining one of the deepest and most structurally sound rosters in the league, even when postseason results have varied.
Unlike the more chaotic Central Conference, the Coastal Conference has generally developed a reputation as the more stable and offensively consistent of the ACL’s two conferences. While it has produced several dominant teams, it is also known for extremely tight playoff races, where postseason seeding is frequently decided in the final weeks of the regular season.
The addition of the Texas and Oklahoma expansion franchises in 2025 marked one of the largest structural changes in league history and significantly expanded the conference’s geographic footprint. Since realignment, the Coastal Conference has continued to produce closely contested standings battles and some of the ACL’s most competitive playoff races.
