Executive commissioner Ike Mendel and Operations Commissioner Reese Thompson worked quickly to close a taxi squad loophole that allowed teams to pay next to nothing for their rookie picks. The new Rule goes into effect immediately and effectively bans restructuring a player who in on the taxi squad of a team. Thompson had this to say: "I will be amending the Constitution under the taxi squad subsection to prohibit contract restructuring to any player in a taxi squad position. Penalty for lack of compliancy henceforth of which will follow standard league disciplinary action. Current rules allow a loophole for which contracts for players on taxi squads could have been restructured with money moving into null years and disappearing." and Executive commissioner further explained the two's reasoning for opting to use an executive amendment rather than opting for a normal voting process. "to concur with this and expand on the reasoning, we felt as though despite it being technically legal to restructure a player in the taxi squad, it would be far to powerful to just restructure a contract and essentially pay them nothing. We pretty sure no one has done it but now we’re explicitly saying you can’t." The new rule keeps the integrity of the league intact and should help solidify Reese and Ike in the 2024 election cycle if they so choose to run again.
