Minnesota emerges into the playoffs as a force to be reckoned with, quietly reaching an impressive 8-5 record and securing the Great Lakes division championship. Led by standout talents like CMC and anticipating the return of Justin Jefferson, the team arrives with a reputation for consistency and a knack for pulling off pivotal victories. Their remarkable form throughout the season, complemented by their penchant for late-season heroics, positions them as a formidable contender prepared to make a significant impact on the postseason stage.

Conversely, California enters the playoff picture with a 6-7 record, indicating a challenging journey to this postseason moment. Don’t let the sub .500 record fool you, the Pansies hail from the division with the most parity in the League and tactfully lost in week 13 to avoid eliminating themselves to a falling points for juggernaut SD. The Pansies secured their third consecutive playoff appearance and are looking to break the barrier that is the first round of the playoffs.  

Adding an extra layer of intrigue is the prospect of these two teams meeting for the first time in the postseason, creating an element of unpredictability and anticipation. The absence of prior playoff encounters between them amplifies the excitement and potential for unexpected storylines to unfold in this crucial matchup.

No. 3 South Dakota vs No.6 Maryland

A Atlantic High Plains Clash is slated  between the No. 3 Seed South Dakota Bighorns and the No. 6 Seed Maryland Marines, brace yourself for a riveting rematch that promises explosive action and a battle for redemption.

South Dakota Bighorns, despite leading the whole league in scoring, found themselves plagued by tough luck in the 2023 season. Their remarkable ability to put up staggering point totals often didn't translate to crucial wins, denying them a shot at a third consecutive bye week. However, their commanding performances throughout the season have established them as a team capable of explosive plays and record-setting moments. During the 2023 campaign they set the  record for single-week scoring. Heading into the Wild Card round, they will face a formidable opponent in the 10-3 Marines, a team that bested them in the previous year's Bison Bowl and earlier this season. The Bighorns' hunger for redemption and their explosive potential make them a daunting challenge for any team in the postseason.

On the opposite side, the Maryland Marines, led by the reigning ACL MVP Patrick Mahomes, boast a commendable 10-3 record reflective of their ability to secure victories when it counts. Despite falling short in a crucial Week 13 Atlantic championship clash against the Virginia Heifers, the Marines remain steadfast in their pursuit of playoff success. Manager Josh’s bold claim of being a dynasty seemed premature to some, but a performance here in the playoffs could start validating his assertions. There is a lot on the line for  the Marines who are seeking to solidify their reputation by defending their championship title. Their path to the Liberty Bowl is laden with challenges, starting with a showdown against the explosive Bighorns, and after if they win would have to travel to the Virgina Heifers who seem to have their number this season, making up 2 of the Marines 3 losses this season. 

With Maryland holding a lead in the all-time series and the projections hinting at a closely contested battle, this rematch promises to be a high-octane clash.
